Going COP. What do i need?

I have some 2 wire "dumb" CBR 1000RR coils and an AEM ems Series 1 for my Nissan. I would like to run this for now and uprade to a CDI box in the future. My question is do I run the coils directly off the ems? or do i use the seperate AEM 4 Channel coil driver?

Yes, an ignitor is required

Yes, an ignitor is required but it doesn't have to be an AEM one. I'm guessing you have a FWD SR20 if you're not already COP but an OEM Nissan RWD SR20 ignitor will also work.

Yes FWD SR20 here. Thanks for

Yes FWD SR20 here. Thanks for the help, never even thought of using a RWD DET igniter! One more thing.... Can smart coils (3 or more wires) can be run right off the ecu? It's the 30-1600 series 1 btw.....Just wondering....... I'm sticking with the CBR coils though, incase i go full CDI box.

Yes, smart coils would get

Yes, smart coils would get triggered directly by the ECU. The ECU outputs a 5v signal to trigger the ignition. The ignitor takes this signal and does the high current 12v switching for the coil primary. Smart coils basically have an ignitor built into them so they accept the 5v signal directly and an internal transistor does the high current 12v switching for the coil primary.
